Ah, week 1. The sweet smells of the end of summer, the hilarious sight of first years getting lost, and the onerous sound of questions from mature-aged students.

“When can I get access to the week one lecture slides?” QUT’s most recent 40 year old LLB enrolee asks the 2023 first year page.

“I just really want to get a good start on the content so I don’t get behind,” she responds to comments asking if she’s “…an idiot.”

“Can I get a tutor for AGLC??”  she asks desperately to a group of her fellow first years that barely had a grasp of Harvard in high school.

“Am I allowed to come to uni not wearing my QUT shirt??” she asked again in the same thread, as if the group is a place for a stream of embarrassing thoughts.

“I’m just so keen to get started and make law school friends!” Jolene Smith stated when we asked her if she was being genuine.

Despite this series of cringeworthy comments, we realised Jolene’s asking the questions we’ve been wondering the answer to since we started uni.

The GSJ will be ringing around for a referencing tutor tomorrow.
