Usually at this time of year we release an article making fun of the first years who chose to study law because of Suits (mainly because of the hilarious reality check that ensues). Instead we’ve decided to mix things up this year by compiling a list of QUT Law Society experiences that actually also happen in Suits, and yes some do exist but before any of you first years say anything its not a reason to sign up to four years of academic hell just because your whole personality is a shoddy legal drama. Although it could be one to buy a QUTLS playing card (;
But we digress, here are five cool things from Suits you could experience this year.

Cross examining witnesses
Want to barrage a witness? Well, you can’t that’s just unprofessional BUT you can get to experience what actual witness examination is like in the QUTL’s witness examination competition!
And while you won’t have to fend of the prosecution of Andrew Malik you can get to hear from the Director of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Todd Fuller at the witness examination show case. Where you also get to be part of the jury, Suits-core Harvey-pilled much? This is happening this Thursday 20th February at 5:45pm and this is not one to miss.

Mooting
Is Jessica Pearson going to be deciding whether you get fired or not over the outcome of this? No. Instead you might be appearing before an actual judge in an actual court room instead of the Pearson Hardman office if you make it to the grand-final.
Want to know more? Welcome to Moot Club is happening on Wednesday the 26th of February at 5:45pm in the Gibson Room and could set you up to clinch the trophy in Junior Moot, Championship Moot or even one of QUT’s external ones overseas.

Networking
Who doesn’t love a sip and schmooze? With Get Your Foot in the Door, Meet the Profession, Clerkship Symposium and a myriad of other events based on education and building connections, you’ll get that manufactured nepo hire role in no time. Disclaimer, you can’t just go around blackmailing people to get what you want like they do in Suits. That’s not going to get you very far, trust us.

A tuxedo worthy event
Or maybe you prefer the glitz, the glam, the glamour the Suits themselves and not the shmucks wearing them? Then have we got an event for you, the crème de la crème of our social calendar and the jewel in the Event Portfolios crown, Law Ball. Steeped in a long history of wild nights its an event that certainly will not disappoint with a completely revamped extravaganza coming from the 2025 committee. You can even roleplay client power struggles with your friends in your cute lil tuxedos just like Harvey and Mike ❤

Barefoot Bowls
Was this actually in Suits? I don’t know BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN! If there is one thing a law student should know how to do its how to party and this semester we’re bringing it with QUT Law Society’s barefoot bowls. They’ll be drinks, they’ll be balls, and an unofficial after party in the valley that is so uninsurable, it is not affiliated with the Society in any way shape or form!
It’s happening this coming Thursday and you can bet its going to be good. Keep an eye out on the QUTLS socials for more.
